Bio
Markus Meier was raised at Halls Creek in the Kimberleys. He began his musical journey at the age of five, teaching himself chords on the guitar from an old book given to him by his prospector father.
By the age of 12, with his brother Paul, he was supporting names like Lee Kernaghan, The Black Sorrows and John Williamson. They became known as "The Territory Boys".
During the late 90's, the brothers regularly took home winner's trophies from many amateur talent quests. In 2004 The Territory Boys ventured to Melbourne, but it wasn’t long before Markus heeded the call of the Territory, and returned home. Paul opted to stay in Victoria, and for the first time, Markus embarked on a solo career.
During this time Markus played in Darwin bands, and the talented musician honed his skills on guitar, harmonica, banjo and mandolin.
He burst onto the local scene in June 2005 when he took out 3 sections of the Adelaide River N.T. Country Music Talent Quest, the competition that marked the turning point in the careers of Sara Storer, Tom Curtain and Karen O’Shea.
Markus Meier went on to represent the Northern Territory at both the CMAA College of Country Music Tamworth & The Telstra Road to Tamworth 2006.
2007 Marked a new beginning for Markus with the release of his debut album "Raindance" produced by Garth Porter & co written with James Blundell & Colin Buchanan. He was awarded the "Wally" Award for the best new talent in Tamworth Festival 2007. The release of his first single "Matilda Road" gained Markus more attention. It reached #14 on the CMR Charts & #13 on the CMC Country Chart.
He signed a Distribution Deal with Shock Records and also a Publishing Contract with Shock Publishing.
"Walk in the Rain" his 2nd single reached top 10 in the CMR charts. In October he was voted "Rising Star Male 2007" at the Mildura Independent Music Awards.
2008 Markus was named Ambassador of the Urban Country Music Festival; has been part of the tribute Aussies Walk the Line Johnny Cash Show; "The Beating Heart" the 3rd single reached #4 on the CMR Charts. Working alongside many name established artists is gaining Markus a wide following of all ages. With a new single and video clip due out and Festivals lined up Markus Meier is now being recognised as one of the new talents in Australian Country Music.
